Floor Preparation
Correct Preparation of the surface is absolutely CRITICAL for epoxy flooring as most concrete indoor concrete surfaces are too smooth to provide sufficient adhesion of the coating. Contamination can also be a major problem as any presence of substances such as oils, coolant, silicons or old coatings within the top layer of concrete can also cause very premature failure of the coating.

New Concrete. Reasonably new floors with no contamination can usually be prepared sufficiently using a strong acid etch followed by degreasing and an intensive 4000psi high pressure water blast which will remove the smooth top layer of concrete along with any contaminants.

Prep for Older Floors. For older concrete floors with the presence of contamination or old coatings we will need to surface grind the area as seen in the video below to ensure a suitable surface prior to coating. We use professional grade equipment with diamond tooling and a large industrial HEPA vacuum extractor to collect the waste and avoid dust during the grinding process. We would typically remove somewhere between 20kg – 40kg of waste from the surface of a typical 2 car garage.

Epoxy Coating
Once the floor is clean, dry and in a suitable state for coating we apply a thick layer of INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH coloured epoxy resin. In a typical double garage we will apply around 16KG of product rather than the typical 5 litre kit used by many competitors. This thick coating ensures a solid continuous bond of epoxy to concrete and fills minor imperfections at the same time. We use an INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH Epoxy product made in Australia, which is designed to endure the punishment of forklifts and warehouse environments, so it is extremely durable in a domestic application.

Flake Layer and Final Clear Coat
Next we apply a liberal coating of the chosen decorative flakes while the epoxy is still tacky to provide a very attractive showroom style look. We then return to apply a liberal clear coat to protect the flake layer and provide an extremely durable, gloss showroom finish which is chemically resistant and one of the toughest wearing floor coatings available. While an Epoxy clear coat is an option here, we highly recommend the selection of a Polyurethane Topcoat, as this resists yellowing from UV Sunlight which can be an issue with Epoxy products over time. While Polyurethane costs a little more it is well worth the extra investment to keep your floor looking great especially if it will be regularly exposed to the sun.

We use 100% Solids Epoxy Resins for a High Build COMMERCIAL QUALITY finish. As an example on a typical two car garage we would apply approximately 16kg – 20kg of Epoxy Resins, compared to just 4kg to 6kg rolled on by many competitors… This is why our floors will still look GREAT many years after the cheap and nasty ones look scratched and worn away.

SHOWROOM Quality FLAKE Flooring… This is a quite labour intensive process carried out over usually a 2 to 3 day period from start of prep to completion. Pricing starts from around $2250+gst for a new double garage and varies depending on options selected and level of preparation required. Discounts also apply for areas over 50m2.
